From Samos, Greece, With Dedication:The Markou Legacy
Fifty years ago, Greece was emerging from a difficult period, transitioning from one of the least developed countries into a developing nation. In small villages like ours on the island of Samos, people were beginning to look ahead with cautious optimism.
It was during this time, in 1969, that our father—a determined and forward-thinking man—founded our family-run olive oil business.
His goal was to meet growing demand and align with the broader progress taking place across the country. Over time, and with continuous effort and upgrades, the mill’s capacity and efficiency grew.
Recognizing the region’s long-standing tradition of olive oil production, he sought to modernize outdated methods by introducing the first centrifugal olive oil press on the island in 1978.
In 2005, as part of the Community Development Program, we completed a major modernization of our facility. What began as a modest operation in a transitioning Greece has evolved into a state-of-the-art olive oil production facility, firmly rooted in tradition but fully adapted to the demands of the modern era.
